Creating a Rabbit in Blender: Part 5

What You'll Be Creating

1. Merging the Legs and Feet

Step 1

Start Blender and open the file which was saved in the last part of the tutorial series. Select the leg and hide (H) it.

Step 2

Select the indicated vertices and delete (X).

Step 3

Unhide (Alt-H) the legs and select the two edges as shown in the following image.

Step 4

Press space bar and search for Bridge Edge Loops.

Step 5

Hide (H) the tail.

Step 6

Select the edge and delete (X).

Step 7

Unhide (Alt-H) the tail and this time hide (H) the body. Take note which edges would be intersecting between the body and the tail.

Step 8

Select and delete (X) the indicated edges.

Step 9

Select the two edges and bring up the search bar and look for Bridge Edge Loops.

Step 10

Bring up the Vertex Context Menu and select Smooth Vertices.

Step 11

Tab into Object mode. We've finished merging the limbs. The model should look as follows.

2. Adding Details to Face

Step 1

Add a new cube (Shift-A).

Step 2

Subdivide (W) it and set number of cuts to 3 and smoothness to 1.

Step 3

Tab into object mode and bring up the Object Context Menu (W) and select Shade Smooth.

Step 4

Scale it to be as large as the reference.

Step 5

Duplicate (Shift-D) and place it as follows.

Step 6

Select these vertices and scale (S) it in the Z-axis (Z).

Step 7

Select these vertices and scale (S) it in the Y-axis (Y).

Step 8

Add a new cube (Shift-A).

Step 9

Subdivide (W) it.

Step 10

Set Number of cuts to 3 and smoothness to 1.

Step 11

Go to the Modifiers Tab and add a Mirror modifier.

Step 12

Add Subdivision Surface modifier.

Step 13

Tab into Object mode and bring up the Object Context Menu (W) and select Shade Smooth.

Step 14

Tab into Edit mode and scale (S) it in the Z-axis (Z).

Step 15

Scale (S) it accordingly.

Step 16

Scale (S) it in the Y-axis (Y).

Step 17

Adjust the shape as per the reference image.

Step 18

Combine them all into one object (Alt-J).

Step 19

Place and adjust the vertices so that the eye is placed in the eye socket as shown in the following image.

Scale and adjust accordingly.

Step 21

Select the indicated edges and snap (Shift-S) and select Cursor to Selected.

Step 22

Tab into Object mode and add (Shift-A) a new Circle.

Step 23

Set the Vertices count to 16.

Step 24

Select the edges and make face (F).

Step 25

Scale (S) it down.

Step 26

Switch to side view and rotate (R) it to -90 degrees.

Step 27

Adjust the vertices to be in front of the eyeball.

Step 28

In top view, 7 on the number pad, duplicate (Shift-D) the vertices and move it onto the left eye.

Step 29

Tab into Object mode. In the modifiers tab, apply the Mirror modifier.

Step 30

Select the head and apply Mirror modifier.

Step 31

Apply both modifiers for the Body and Eyeball.

Step 32

Select all objects and combine them (Ctrl-J).

The end model would look like this.
